How to avoid baby diaper rash?

From the very start, we should know that babies are sensitive and delicate. Knowledge is still the best weapon in preventing rashes to occur.

What causes diaper rash?
Diaper rash is usually caused by constant wetness and friction that gives a red, irritated and uncomfortable skin.

Here are some preventive measures we can do to do this. I'll try to keep it as simple as i can.

1. Try to change diapers at least every 2 hours. When I say at least, it means if in 2 hours, you haven't changed your baby's diaper, YOU NEED TO DO IT.

2. Try to read and compare diapers being sold in the markert today. Competition is stiff and manufacturers try to outdo the others. Get one that does not get wet easily (same for feminine napkin ads).

3. Cleaning your baby's bottom can be handled in 2 ways. Either use soap and water, or use baby wipes (word of caution : when buying for the 1st time, buy only the 20 sheets or less. That way, if our baby has an adverse reaction to it, we can switch to another brand easily not waiting for it to run out).

4. Make sure that you clean your baby's bottom thoroughly. Get ride of all traces of stool or urine including the surrounding areas. (Optional : you can put baby powder on your baby's bottom if he/she is not sensitive. That way, it will cause much less friction compared to not putting any powder).

5. Before slipping on a new pair of diapers on your baby, you might need to pat his bottom with clean towel first to ensure that it's completely dry.
